Restorative Justice for Environmental Crimes

Restorative Justice for Environmental Crimes

The world is getting hotter and hotter, and it is not cooling down, at least not yet. A wise African saying states ‘It takes a whole village to raise a child’, well, It is going to take the whole world village to fix the environment. Environment refers to our surroundings especially those we live in and where we work. Therefore, environmental crimes are a violation of environmental laws that are put in place to protect the environment. They pose a great threat to the future of our planet. Furthermore, Environmental Crime is a time-critical issue that urgently requires a substantial and sustained international response. Environmental crimes do not get the necessary response from governments and law enforcement agencies because they are often regarded as victimless. The inappropriate/insufficient governmental response to environmental crimes calls for an alternative approach to dealing with the problem.
