Culture & Art for the Square Mile (CA4SM)

Project Status: Closed

In an increasingly divided London, the RJ4All International Institute ran the Culture & Art for the Square Mile project (CA4SM, spring 2020) children-led project, making the City’s cultural offerings available to families in South East London.
The project was funded as part of the City of London Corporation’s ‘Inspiring London through Culture’ initiative.

CA4SM aimed at enhancing the Square Mile cultural heritage and creative future by providing children an opportunity to learn and use their creativity.

Square Mile

Fostering and spreading knowledge on the Square Mile culture.

Enhance Social Cohesion

Enhancing social cohesion through arts and restorative justice.

Provide Opportunities

Provide creative opportunities for children and families who would not be able to access after school art workshops.

Our activities

In order to reach our objectives, CA4SM partnered with Bizzie Bodies to hold art workshops where we taught children about the Square Mile culture whilst improving their well-being and diverting them from harm.
Children learned new skills, including technological ones, which will enable them to deliver cultural products in the future, enhancing London’s creative future.

From Monday 1st June 2020 until Sunday 28th June 2020, we accepted submissions for our art competition.
Children submitted:
– Visual art creations: Painting, drawing etc..
– Poems
– Songs

The winner of the competition won a £30 voucher and the runner up won a £15 voucher.

All the art was included in an online exhibition and an e-magazine. We also held an online party to celebrate all the contributions received!
